According to Ani.ME, Katsuhiro Otomo, the creator of Akira, will be at San Diego Comic-Con this year. Comic-Con, which happens every year in July, is the largest cosplay, comicbook, and fan convention in the United States with attendance of over 125,000 people in a period of 4 days. It can be considered America’s version of Japan’s Comiket, although the two events are very different in style and feel.
Many American otaku attribute Akira for being the pivotal animated movie that birthed Japanese anime and manga as global phenomena. A live action Akira motion picture has been rumored for years and will likely be a point of discussion for long-time fans of Otomo’s work at the SDCC panel.
Are you going to Comic-Con this year? If so, how’d you get the tickets???
